ABOUT NICOLE

me1.jpg

I am a mixed media painter who creates abstract floralscapes and impressionistic landscape paintings.  I am a lover of texture, color, and experimenting with different mediums. My process begins with a layer of texture which includes paper & molding paste (an archival plaster like substance). Occasionally I will add different texture mediums such as, linen, burlap, archival photographs and various other found materials. I then paint on top with acrylic. For the final layer, I use wax crayons, pastels, pencils, and other drawing materials. All of these different mediums give my paintings an oil-like effect.

Much of my inspiration is drawn from my hikes, places I long to explore, love of nature, gardening and fond memories.  The landscapes I paint are that are familiar yet indistinct so that others may determine the location.

My floral inspired works are playful with bright expressive color and multiple layers of glazing, that give them depth and dimension.

I graduated from KSU with a B.F.A. and a concentration in photography/printmaking in 2007. I pursued a career in portrait photography and enjoyed doing that for many years. While my background is in photography, I have dabbled in all art forms ranging from sculpture to painting. I have always had a passion for drawing and painting and it’s something I keep returning to throughout my life.

I live in Marietta, GA with my husband and 2 children. My work can be seen throughout local festivals and Menagerie on Main in Canton, GA.
