NICOLE E BOUHANE
ABOUT ME

My name is Nicole Bouchane and I create out of my home studio in Marietta, GA. Much of my childhood was spent near water. I grew up in Long Island, NY and spent my adolescent years in a small town outside of Orlando, St. Cloud. Water is a prominent theme through out my work even in my abstract florals. Water is reflective in nature, and it is that sense of nostalgia that I reflect on when painting. Some of my landscapes are places that I have yet to see with my own eyes and a secret promise to myself to visit them. My intent is to keep the landscapes indistinct so the viewer can bring their own sense of meaning or place to the painting.
My Process
Many of my paintings are created with layers. I am a tactile person which draws me to texture. My process begins with a base layer of texture that ranges anywhere from light texture using acid free tissue paper to heavy texture using burlap and other various materials. Next, I experiment with color, and acrylic glazing and pastels. I like playing with different medias and will occasionally finish with markers, crayons, pencils, and pastels. I have recently started playing with encaustics and intend to make them part of my regular body of work.
